About

The Design Shift is an online publication dedicated to discussing and reviewing projects in media, culture, and education that explore the convergence of print and digital media and technology as it relates to the publishing design profession.

As well as highlighting the convergence of media we’ll also showcase examples where we see the benefits of print and digital media. Sometimes the best solution to a publication design problem is a hand-bound letterpress book or an interactive iPad app.

Publications are closing, downsizing, redesigning, and moving to the digital world. Publishers, editors, writers, photographers, illustrators, and designers are experimenting with news ways of writing and designing for new publishing models and formats? What are the strengths and weaknesses of a book, a magazine, a website, a blog, a database, a mobile device?
